Inner Development Goals

At Natural Intelligence, we work with the Inner Development Goals (IDGs) as the frameworks's skills are aligned to our values and the transformation we believe is needed to create purpose-driven, reslient organisations that are a force for good in the world.

You can read more and explore the framework here.

We wanted to take the IDGs outdoors and so we created a pack of cards true to the IDG skills and branding. There are twenty-eight cards in the pack, five dimension cards and twenty-three skill cards. This gives us a practical and concrete tool for our workshops, outdoors in nature, and offers our customers a means to keep the skills fresh and alive in their teams.

Check out the first examples of how the cards can be used below.

As an organisation, you can order the cards from us with your own branding on the reverse and we will soon be supplying smaller quantities to individuals and facilitators too.

If this is of interest do get in touch!

Here's an example of a pack with the client's branding on the reverse.

Skånes Dansteater ordered packs of cards for everyone within the organisation and a half day workshop outdoors where everyone could get their hands on them straight away!

They had worked with the Inner Development Goals for some time and the workshop was a refresher for most and an introduction for those who had joined recently.

Connecting to inner strength and welcoming change

Exercise 1.

Reflecting on a challenging situation at work

During the workshop everyone is invited to reflect on a challenging situation they have faced at work and how they came through it.

Working in small groups of three, each person shares their challenge, in turn, and then the others, with the help of the IDG cards, share what skills they percieve have been used to overcome the challenge.

Authentic relating, active listening, and positive mirroring all create self awareness and help participants to understand their own strengths and core resilience.

Participants are invited to identify a card, a skill, they would like to work on too. The card serves as a tangible reminder.

Above all, with nature as a partner, a deeper connection between individuals can be established increasing group coherence and the potential for collaboration.

Exercise 2.

Carrying forward the lessons from perceived failures at work

In a grounding, guided meditation group members are invited to recall a time when they felt they had failed at work.

Participants, used to working in high performance environments, were challenged to become vulnerable and share their failure with the group. They experienced how authenticity and vulnerability shift the energy in the group and came to realise that we all make mistakes.

With the help of the IDG cards they were able to harvest the lessons from and gain a deeper insight into their experience of failure.

This exercise supported participants to develop emotional resilience through becoming vulnerable and opening up with colleagues. They gained a new perspective on what they had seen as failure and were able to uncover the lessons it offered. This also reduces risk aversion.

The members of the group felt energised afterwards and had developed closer bonds to each other.

Exercise 3.

Participants are invited to relax and enter a calm brainwave state during a grounding meditation. They are guided to sense into a challenge or issue that they would like to find a solution to.

With space to reflect afterwards they use the IDG card pack, selecting a card that they feel can inspire them to find a solution to their challenge. This acts as a key to unlock new perspectives. Working in pairs, participants share their cards and what comes up for them in the moment.

Another key is nature. Participants are invited to take a short, mindful walk, opening up their senses and being relaxed and alert to feelings, thoughts and bodily sensations. They are guided to be aware of what they are attracted to and to be open to and trust any feelings or thoughts that arise as these could be nugets of wisdom, insights that can help them see their challenge differently.

This exercise supports participants to realise their own ability to find creative solutions to challenges and to sense the value of spending time in nature and to trust themselves and their natural intelligence.
